TOKYO -- As Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel pursue legal action to realize their much-contested acquisition plan, they face a daunting battle in the courtroom, as well as a potential competing bid that could sway shareholders.

The two companies have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government, asking the court to nullify an executive order from former President Joe Biden blocking Nippon Steel's purchase of U.S. Steel.
