TOKYO -- Nippon Steel's chances of successfully acquiring U.S. Steel are becoming increasingly slim amid the possibility of a presidential order to block the deal, according to experts, with investors pointing out risks for the Japanese company even if the transaction goes through.

Nippon Steel has been scrambling to convince American laborers and government authorities that it has good faith in acquiring the American steelmaker, but negotiations are entering a critical period as media report that U.S. President Joe Biden will soon block the deal due to national security concerns.
