TOKYO -- Nippon Steel on Wednesday released details of its negotiations with the United Steelworkers union over its proposed takeover of U.S. Steel, in a bid to dispel what it called "public mischaracterizations" of their exchanges so far.

"We hope that the disclosure of these materials will help U.S. Steel's employees and other stakeholders understand the full set of facts about our engagements with USW," Nippon Steel said on a website dedicated to the deal.
