TOKYO -- Nippon Steel plans to relocate its U.S. headquarters to Pittsburgh, the city where U.S. Steel is based, in a bid to smooth the intended purchase of the American steelmaker, regulatory filings show.

In a statement submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Nippon Steel said it will move its American headquarters from Houston to Pittsburgh after finalizing the deal.
