TOKYO -- Niantic will sell the bulk of its video game business, including Pokemon Go, the U.S.-based software developer said Wednesday, shedding the maturing business as it focuses on 3-D maps and artificial intelligence.
The company will spin off its geospatial technology and augmented reality platform into a new company, Niantic Spatial, with shares to be allocated to current Niantic stockholders as well as U.S.-based mobile game developer Scopely. The game business will be sold to Scopely for $3.5 billion.
