Seiko Epson invests in U.S. beauty startup to make nail polish kiosks

Japanese printer maker looks to use its color expertise to create custom products

TOKYO -- Seiko Epson has invested in U.S. cosmetics startup Blank Beauty to jointly develop robotic kiosks that let customers mix nail polishes to create custom colors.

The investment, announced Thursday, was made through corporate venture capital. The amount was undisclosed. The two companies will look to deploy the machines at retailers in Japan and elsewhere around the world.
