Sumitomo unit to buy European aircraft lessor Goshawk

$1.5bn deal will make Japanese company the world's No. 2

Japan's Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing will buy Ireland-based Goshawk for around $1.5 billion as it looks for air travel to recover.

TOKYO/HONG KONG -- Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL) has decided to buy European aircraft leasing company Goshawk, Nikkei has learned. 

The purchase, which is expected to cost around $1.5 billion, will make SMFL the world's second-largest aircraft leasing group by fleet size.
