WASHINGTON -- Republican lawmakers have sent a letter to cabinet members in U.S. President Joe Biden's administration expressing doubt about the independence of a review into Nippon Steel's pending purchase of U.S. Steel.

The letter, dated Friday, requests communications between the White House and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) be preserved so the U.S. Steel deal could be probed for potential political interference in the decision-making process.
