HOUSTON, Texas -- The United Steelworkers union has sent a letter to U.S. Steel seeking more information about the status of its proposed acquisition by Nippon Steel in light of recent remarks that it said may indicate changes to the existing agreement.
The letter sent Friday by USW's union bargaining chair to U.S. Steel's chief labor relations officer cites comments by U.S. President Donald Trump about a "planned partnership" between the companies. It also noted Pennsylvania Sen. David McCormick's mention of a "golden share" that would grant the U.S. government special rights.
