Watami to buy U.S.-based Sonny Sushi for $6m

TOKYO -- Japan's Watami will acquire U.S.-based Sonny Sushi, which supplies sushi products to supermarkets and hotels, for $6 million in its first entry into the American market, Nikkei has learned.

The two sides have signed an agreement for the purchase of Sonny Sushi's assets. Watami is to establish two local units that will take on Sonny Sushi's production facilities, brand and employees.
