India becomes No. 2 air conditioner market, surpassing Japan

Daikin and other players look to expand output in the South Asian country

OSAKA -- India became the world's second-largest market for air conditioners in 2024, pulling ahead of Japan for the first time.

Air conditioner demand in India reached 11.94 million units, while Japan came in third at 10.18 million, data from the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association shows.
