TOKYO -- Machine tools makers from Japan are investing in India in hopes of getting in on the ground floor of a rising Asian manufacturing hub.

Tsugami, a Tokyo-based maker of automatic lathes used in the auto and electronics industry, opened its first Indian casting plant in April. A processing and assembly plant will go online in April 2025. That site and the casting plant cost 3.6 billion yen ($23 million).
