Colorful Japanese carp, or 'nishikigoi,' are increasingly finding homes outside Japan as aficionados of the fish grow in numbers.

NIIGATA, Japan -- Nishikigoi, Japan's large, colorful carp kept for ornamental purposes, have been gaining fans abroad.

A recent fair for the fish in the city of Ojiya in Niigata Prefecture was indicative of the fish's growing popularity, with many overseas buyers, hobbyists and members of the media in attendance to ogle the 900 or so nishikigoi on display.
