Philippines' back-to-office order unsettles call centers

Work-from-home program for over a million outsourcing workers set to end

MANILA -- For many call center employees in the Philippines like Liza Naje, working from home amid the COVID-19 pandemic keeps them safe and prevents burnout. And at a time of soaring fuel prices, it means avoiding Manila's notorious traffic jams. "Working from home also means we spend less on transportation and food," Naje said.

But in the economically important industry where Naje belongs, the days of at-home work are numbered.
