HONG KONG -- Japanese companies in Hong Kong are grappling with labor shortages amid an exodus of workers, while stagnant economic activity in mainland China is hitting business performances, according to a report released on Monday.

A third of the respondents in the biannual survey conducted by three Japanese organizations in the city said they had lost personnel during the first six months of the year. About two-thirds of those workers had left the territory.
