LAS VEGAS, U.S. -- Japanese startups are increasingly eyeing the American market as more globally minded CEOs seek growth and funding abroad, even though in terms of exposure at the world's biggest consumer tech show, they still lag their peers from South Korea.

At the CES technology trade show, which ends on Friday in Las Vegas, one of two Tokyo-backed pavilions hosted some 30 companies. That is roughly in line with last year's number, and competition for a spot was high, with around 100 companies applying to participate.
