HONG KONG -- CGN Power, China's biggest nuclear power producer, is aggressively expanding its network of nuclear power stations in line with the government's drive to meet surging energy demand and cut pollution.
CGN Power plans to increase its nuclear reactors from 11 to 20 by 2019, doubling its nuclear power generation capacity to the maximum 21 gigawatts. The company's bold growth strategy is supported by the government's move to step up its policy efforts to reduce the country's greenhouse gas emissions and tackle the increasingly serious problem of air pollution. But analysts warn the company should do more to ensure the safety of its plants and disclose related information.
