Demand for face recognition software, high-resolution cameras soars prior to Olympics

Canon has developed a system that can track a person in real-time via networked cameras.

TOKYO -- Camera makers exhibited state-of-the-art security technologies at a special exhibition in Tokyo that finished on Friday. Makers were looking to cash in on terror-conscious companies and public offices in the run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

The Special Equipment Exhibition & Conference for Anti-Terrorism was open only to security officers and crisis management personnel on infrastructure projects. Security at the event was tight, with attendees forced to undergo thorough security checks before entering.
