China's Xiaomi learns patience in global expansion: CEO

Wiser now, smartphone maker plans focused effort, hints at AI-imbued products

BEIJING -- Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has found that "expanding globally is no simple task," and it "requires gathering lots of experience," CEO Lei Jun said Monday, owning up to his company's struggles in overseas markets as sales also cool at home.

Lei, a deputy to China's National People's Congress, spoke with reporters on the sidelines of the legislature's talks.
