TOKYO -- Belle International Holdings, China's biggest shoe retailer, will open in late August its first store in Japan under its mainstay Staccato women's footwear brand. The new store will be located in the Lumine Est Shinjuku shopping mall in Tokyo.
The company plans to open more than 50 stores in Japan over the next few years.
The shop will offer shoes designed by staff in Hong Kong and Italy. Prices will be about 15,000-20,000 yen (around $150-200). Belle International aims to achieve sales of 10-20 billion yen annually in Japan.
Belle International has more than 19,000 shoe stores in China.
The company in August 2013 became the largest shareholder in Baroque Japan, a Japanese retailer of women's clothes, when it acquired 31.96% of the stock.
The two companies will jointly develop design and products for the Japanese market and manufacture products primarily in China for export to Japan. They also plan to manufacture some of their products in Japan as early as next year.
