SHANGHAI -- Chinese companies on Thursday showcased their latest generative artificial intelligence capabilities in Shanghai, as the country races to lead the development of frontier technology.

The annual World Artificial Intelligence Conference kicked off with a speech by Chinese Premier Li Qiang backing the domestic AI industry and urging governments around the world to collaborate in ensuring its safety.
