TAIPEI/KUALA LUMPUR -- Huawei Technologies is aiming for a comeback in Southeast Asia, with a rare overseas launch event for its flagship smartphones underscoring the embattled Chinese company's determination to restore its consumer electronics business to global prominence.

Huawei is holding the global launch of the Huawei Mate XT -- its most expensive model -- in Kuala Lumpur, having first unveiled it in its home market in September. It also introduced its MatePad Pro tablet and FreeArc, its first open-ear earbuds with earhooks, and other wearables during the event.
