GUANGZHOU -- China's Huawei Technologies has opened an exercise and health research center in its home province of Guangdong to improve its wearable devices, an increasingly important business for what was once the world's top smartphone maker.

The 200 million yuan ($31.4 million) Songshan Lake Health Lab in the city of Dongguan -- Huawei's third such facility, following others in Shenzhen and Xi'an -- was opened to foreign media for the first time last week following its October start.
