Japanese motor company opening Mexico plant now, but says US could follow

Mabuchi Motor's new plant in the Mexican state of Aguascalientes will supply electric motors to North American automakers.

TOKYO -- Growth expectations are rising for Japan's Mabuchi Motor as it is set to expand production with new plants in Poland and Mexico.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to implement a protectionist policy that could negatively impact the motor maker's plan to export products from the Mexican plant to U.S. automakers, but Mabuchi has ample cash to bear the brunt, a company official said.
