China regulators probe Pizza Hut stores over food safety violations

Two locations shut, dozens under investigation after expiry date tampering claims

SHANGHAI -- Two Pizza Hut locations in Beijing have been shut and dozens more are being investigated by Chinese regulators over allegations of food safety violations.

The probe of 45 outlets in the capital's Haidian district comes after an expose by state-backed Beijing News on Wednesday claimed that some locations had put fake expiration dates on food products and violated hygiene standards, including reusing cooking oil.
