BEIJING -- Chinese conglomerate HNA Group and online retailer JD.com will partner across a broad range of industries to build a global logistics network for e-commerce to expand domestic and overseas shipping.
The companies will cooperate strategically in fields such as air freight, refrigerated shipping, international e-commerce, bricks-and-mortar retail, tourism, finance and technology, HNA said Thursday. They also will build a joint logistics hub in the Shaanxi Province city of Xi'an in central China.
HNA will adopt a global strategy for its mainstay businesses of aviation, logistics and finance in line with President Xi Jinping's policies, said Wang Jian, chairman of the group.
JD.com has emphasized the fields of e-commerce, logistics and finance and is likely considering going public with its logistics segment. HNA is considering selling noncore businesses, and the closer cooperation with JD.com could entail the retailer buying those operations.
