OSAKA -- Daikin Industries is set to promote Naofumi Takenaka, senior managing executive officer, to president and chief operating officer (COO) as the company's long-time leader Noriyuki Inoue is stepping down as chairman, Nikkei has learned.

Inoue, 89, is also stepping down from the board. Current president and chief executive officer Masanori Togawa, 75, will replace Inoue as chairman and remain as CEO.
