TOKYO -- Fanuc will build a new plant for industrial robots in Ibaraki Prefecture to respond to voracious demand from Chinese manufacturers.

The Japanese company announced the roughly 63 billion yen ($566 million) investment Thursday. The facility, slated to open in August 2018, will have an initial monthly output of 2,000 robots. That will eventually be raised to 4,000.
