Google to send Pixel 3 smartphone into Asian fray

Tech giant hopes to chip away at Apple, Samsung and Chinese rivals in 13 markets

Google's new Pixel 3 smartphone is coming to 13 Asian markets including Japan, Singapore, India and Taiwan, as the U.S. technology giant attempts to mount a late challenge to Apple, Samsung Electronics and Chinese manufacturers in the region. 

This will be the first phone in the Pixel series to be released in Japan, where Apple led the way last year with a 47.5% share of shipments, according to IDC. Google sold its Nexus line in the country, but it struggled against not only Apple but also domestic makers such as Sony and Sharp
