TOKYO -- Honda Motor has gained type certification in India for the HondaJet and the newer HondaJet Elite, paving the way for deliveries of the business aircraft in the country.
The growth of India's economy has led to an increasing number of potential customers. The company began taking orders in the country in March this year, which it plans to start shipping between April and June.
The HondaJet is already available in the Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia. The company is in the process of obtaining type certification approvals in China and Japan.
Honda has also started selling performance upgrade packages for the earlier model, with repairs and software updates being made through dealerships. The improvements reduce the distance needed for takeoff by around 10% to 1,064 meters, making it more suitable for small airports. The cruising range can also be extended by roughly 10% to a maximum 2,500 km.
