Huawei to step up component buying in Japan

TOKYO -- Huawei Technologies expects to procure 30% more components in Japan this year, in part reflecting its goal of boosting global shipments of smartphones by 33% to 100 million units in 2015.

The Chinese maker of telecommunications equipment spent 208.8 billion yen ($1.7 billion) in Japan in 2014 on parts such as phone screens and optical components.
