Japan Display shifts focus to custom-made auto LCD panels

Price competition intensifying as more manufacturers enter market

Japan Display is making automotive panels a pillar of its business, along with panels for smartphones.

TOKYO -- Japanese LCD display maker Japan Display announced in October that it will boost its automotive panel sales by 60% to around 150 billion yen ($1.32 billion) over the next three years.

Yoshiyuki Tsukizaki, executive officer of Japan Display, recently spoke with The Nikkei about the company's strategy and outlook for the automotive panel business, which will become the company's next pillar after smartphone panels.
