TOKYO -- Mos Food Services Inc., the operator of Mos Burger hamburger restaurants, in August will begin recruiting part-time workers in five languages via a special website.
The move is part of the chain's efforts to cope with an anticipated increase in the number of foreign visitors to the country ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The company hopes many foreign nationals living in Japan, including students, apply for part-time jobs.
Mos Food's special recruitment website for part-timers will start providing information in English, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese, as well as Japanese, in August. For Chinese, it will use both simplified and traditional Chinese.
Managers and certain other staff members of individual Mos Burger outlets will be able to post job-opening information in Japanese that will be automatically translated into the four other languages.
Mos Food will also prepare English, Chinese and Korean teaching materials to train new recruits. Although the company is looking for foreign nationals with a certain level of Japanese-language ability, it plans to aggressively hire foreign nationals.
Mos Food currently employs about 25,000 part-timers, fewer than 1% of whom are foreign nationals. The company plans to boost the figure to several percentage points as soon as possible to make itself fully prepared to serve more foreign customers.
