KOBE, Japan -- Japan's Sumitomo Rubber Industries now expects its group net profit to fall 97% this year to 1 billion yen ($6.6 million) after taking a hit from losses on the closure a U.S. tire factory.

Friday's revised guidance is a sharp reversal from its previous forecast of an 11% profit increase to 41 billion yen.
