ISHIKAWA, Japan -- As counterfeiting proliferates in the age of e-commerce, a small business in Japan has created a product it says offers a way for makers of name-brand goods to protect their intellectual property.

Based in Ishikawa prefecture, Nakagawa Industry makes woven brand labels for clothing, with annual revenue of 500 million yen ($3.2 million). Despite the modest figure, its products are used by major manufacturers of products such as towels and automotive seats.
