OSAKA -- Kokuyo, one of Japan's biggest makers of office and school supplies, will accelerate a shift away from manufacturing under a new plan that stresses services like building renovation.

The renovation business began in October and provides support for creating spaces where people want to gather, such as rooftop gardens, the company says.
