Kirin to lose license for Corona, Budweiser Down Under

Lion will now focus on promoting the mainstay XXXX Gold brand.

TOKYO -- Kirin Holdings will stop selling Corona and other popular beer brands of Anheuser-Busch InBev in Australia because of the Belgian brewer's planned merger with SABMiller, thus losing its market-leading position.

The Japanese company said Monday the licensing contract that lets Australian unit Lion sell AB InBev's 10 beer brands, including Budweiser, will end in September. These account for some 10% of Lion's total sales volume.
