JAKARTA -- Indonesian investigators have offered more insight into the brief, desperate battle to save the doomed Lion Air Flight 610 last month, though the direct cause of the crash remains elusive.

Preliminary findings, released on Wednesday by the National Transportation Safety Committee, confirmed previous reports of problems with sensors aboard the Boeing 737 Max 8. At the same time, the investigators and outside experts have called into question Lion Air's approach to safety.
