Meituan sales top forecast as China food delivery leader takes on world

After conquering Hong Kong with discounts, focus turns to Middle East, beyond

HONG KONG -- Meituan posted better-than-expected quarterly earnings on Friday, as the Chinese food delivery company aggressively expands with heavy discounting.

From October to December last year, Meituan logged total sales of 88.49 billion yuan ($12.2 billion), up 20.1% on the year and beating an average forecast of 87.7 billion yuan by analysts surveyed by LSEG.
