Panasonic to roll out cut-rate smartphones in emerging markets

OSAKA -- Panasonic will sell lower-priced smartphones in emerging markets, starting with Kenya, Ghana and three other countries in the fall.

The devices will come with large-capacity batteries while offering limited camera and recording functions. Priced around 10,000 yen ($98.72) per unit, they will not be LTE-compatible. Annual production is slated to reach 3 million.
