BANGKOK -- A British car brand that was once synonymous with open-topped fun, thanks to its signature convertibles, is gaining young fans in Thailand -- this time with a different look.

MG, based in Birmingham, England, was acquired by China's SAIC Motor in the late 2000s. Its new mission is to capture the hearts of drivers in emerging markets with affordable SUVs. It has made a good start in Thailand, where sales have more than doubled over the past year.
