Samsung, Xiaomi tied in India smartphone market battle

Both companies ship 9.9 million devices each to India in April-June

MUMBAI (NewsRise) -- South Korea's Samsung Electronics and China's Xiaomi are battling it out in India to dominate one of the fastest-growing smartphone markets in the world.

Both Xiaomi and Samsung shipped 9.9 million smartphones each in India in the quarter ended in June, according to data from Canalys, a Singapore-based research firm. Xiaomi, which doubled its shipments in the quarter, held a 30% share of the market, at par with Samsung, the agency said.
