Sumitomo ties with Taiwan scooter maker in battery-swap scheme

TOKYO -- Japanese trading house Sumitomo Corp. has teamed up with Taiwan's Gogoro, an up-and-coming manufacturer of electric scooters, in hopes of creating battery-powered communities, starting with a pilot project on Ishigaki Island in the southern Japanese prefecture of Okinawa.
