Sumitomo to allow telecommuting for 4,000 workers

Japanese trading house broadens work options to secure talent

Telecommuting from satellite offices is becoming widespread among Japanese companies. 

TOKYO -- Japanese trading company Sumitomo Corp. will let its roughly 4,000 employees telecommute at least part of the week, promoting flexible working arrangements to raise productivity.

The program will start in the fall, after the relocation of the company head office within Tokyo in September.
