TOKYO -- Tokyo DisneySea visitors will enjoy virtual flyovers of such wonders as the Taj Mahal and Egyptian pyramids on an attraction opening next Tuesday.
The Soaring: Fantastic Flight ride simulates roughly 10 destinations, including the Great Wall of China and the African savanna, complete with matching scents. It can accommodate up to 87 passengers at a time.
The five-minute whirlwind tour wraps up by gliding over Tokyo Tower to see fireworks at DisneySea itself. This closing footage is exclusive to Tokyo and is not shown on counterpart rides at Disney theme parks in the U.S. and Shanghai.
Tokyo Disney Resort operator Oriental Land invested about 18 billion yen ($167 million) in Soaring: Fantastic Flight. A new "Beauty and the Beast" attraction is slated to open next spring at Tokyo Disneyland, toward the company's goal of record visitor traffic in the year ending March 2021.
