TOKYO -- Toyota Motor said on Wednesday it plans to recall around 1.03 million cars, including Prius hybrids, in Japan, North America, Europe and other regions, as it is concerned about a possible fire hazard.

The automaker said the covering of electrical wiring in engine compartments could be damaged by vibration when the car is running, and could even trigger a fire, in the worst-case scenario.

Vehicles manufactured from October 2015 to May 2018 are subject to the recall.
