Machinery maker sees demand at indoor and urban construction sites

OSAKA -- Japanese construction machinery maker Komatsu unveiled a mass-produced midsize electric hydraulic excavator on Friday, as the company eyes the nascent market for quiet, environmentally friendly heavy equipment.

Rentals for the 20-tonne-class machine, which was shown at a Komatsu plant in Osaka, are scheduled to start in Japan and Europe as soon as October.
