NEW DELHI -- Consumer spending in India during the festival of lights is expected to approach levels not seen since before the pandemic, with Chinese smartphones poised to be big winners in the seasonal shopping.

Diwali, which is associated with the start of the Hindu new year, will be observed later this month. It is the focal point of one of the country's biggest shopping seasons, lasting from September to October with other holidays included.
