Mobike rolls out new model created by Muji designer

Minimalist design comes amid growing parking problem

Mobike President Hu Weiwei, left, shows off the new model with designer Naoto Fukasawa.

BEIJING -- Chinese bike-sharing startup Mobike hopes that a stylish new fleet of bicycles developed with the help of renowned Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa will help relieve the blight concerns that have dogged the company's rapid growth.

As Mobike's service has caught on, complaints about its dockless orange bikes littering sidewalks and other areas have followed. The new set of wheels, a prototype of which was unveiled Friday, features a minimalist, mostly white look that the company hopes will better blend in with urban landscapes.
