TOKYO -- Japan's top conveyor-belt sushi chain Akindo Sushiro and fifth-ranked peer Genki Sushi are to integrate their operations in a deal that would create a behemoth controlling 30% of the market, The Nikkei learned Thursday.
Under the planned deal, rice wholesaler Shinmei is to purchase a 33% stake in Sushiro Global Holdings, the parent company of Akindo Sushiro, to lead the integration. An announcement is expected Friday.
